DENISE MARTIN

Denise Martin is the owner and operator of Star Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd, one of Australia's longest established and all time most successful thoroughbred racehorse syndication companies.

Following an extensive career in the luxury hotel industry throughout the world, Denise established Star Thoroughbreds in 1994. The company is now recognised throughout Australasia as the premier thoroughbred racehorse syndication company, offering quality horses in share partnerships, purchased from the principle yearling sales in Australia and New Zealand each year.

GAI WATERHOUSE

Star Thoroughbreds operates in association exclusively with Hall Of Fame inductee and 5 times Golden Slipper winning trainer, Gai Waterhouse, from her world famous Tulloch Lodge stables at Randwick in Sydney, Australia.

In 2010 Gai Waterhouse became only the 4th trainer in the history of Australian racing to have achieved the extraordinary feat of training in excess of 100 Group 1 winners. Tulloch Lodge was established by Gai's late father the legendary trainer, T J (Tommy) Smith and has been the home of many of Australia's iconic racehorses over the decades.

Situated close to Royal Randwick racecourse, Tulloch Lodge includes the wonderfully presented T J Room which records some of Tommy Smith's greatest achievements throughout his remarkable career, spanning more than half a century.

Gai selects the yearlings for Star Thoroughbreds in conjunction with a team of experts, including independent Australian bloodstock agent, James Harron, experienced Randwick Equine Centre veterinarian, Dr Greg Nash and Gai's stable racing manager, Bruce Slade, formerly with New Zealand Bloodstock. We are looking to buy the yearlings which Gai is specifically keen to train.

Those horses which are purchased by Star Thoroughbreds, carry our famous racing colours of purple and white stars and white cap. In 2008 Star's colours historically crossed the line, for a Group 1 Epsom Handicap quinella at Royal Randwick... believed to be the first time that two horses from the same public syndication company have run first and second in a prestigious Group 1 event in Australia.

STAR's success stories have included Golden Slipper winner, Champion Australasian 2 year old and now exciting young stallion, SEBRING and the wonderful 'war horse', and 5 times Group 1 winner, THESEO. In 2012, our top class 2 year old filly DRIEFONTEIN won the Magic Millions Classic and ended her 2 year old year as the second highest juvenile prize money earner in the land for season 2011–2012.
