THE AVENGER shows great tenacity to win at Warwick Farm

THE AVENGER topped off his very good first full race preparation when winning over 1,400 metres at Warwick Farm yesterday. The lightly raced gelding's CV now boasts two seconds and two wins from as many starts.
Behind the barriers the saddle slipped forward on THE AVENGER and it was an anxious few minutes as the attendants attempted to re-saddle the gelding. Their great work was evident again as they "won the day" and all was in order for the last race on the programme. Fortunately this was not going to impact on the performance of the son of Smart Missile as THE AVENGER jumped quickly from his inside barrier for Kerrin McEvoy. The gelding looked to travel well on the rail in a forward position behind the leaders for the early part of the race.
Rounding the turn for home a gap opened one off the fence and Kerrin guided the 4 year old gelding through to clear running and he let down strongly towards the line, engaging in a head to head battle with Hugh Bowman's mount and the eventual second place getter. To his credit THE AVENGER fought especially hard all the way to the post and his win by a very short margin was a good tough effort by a gelding who has developed into a promising individual seemingly with a good future.
Purchased at the Inglis Easter yearling sale from the Arrowfield Stud draft, THE AVENGER is out of American mare Certain Promise (USA) who in turn is by El Prado (IRE) the same dam sire as Butters (USA) , the dam of our top class Group 1 winning mare FOXPLAY. There are only a very small number of El Prado (IRE) mares in Australia, but as a dam sire he's clearly "right up there" with the best.
Congratulations to the winning THE AVENGER owners Paramount Racing (Manager: Kathryn Wood), Jeremy Tan, Chris Olliver, Ray Aurisch, Helen Aurisch, Derek Robinson, Dianne Handley.
